Why is my urine bright yellow?

Update - April 08, 2008: I came across a funny blog entry from Violent Acres blog about “A Bathtub Full of Urine“. It’s quite a good read. Check it out if you haven’t had enough stories about urine on this entry.

Urine So I mentioned that one of the things I intend to accomplish is fitness, most importantly to me a six pack. I don’t think its to really impress anyone(although it would be neat), but rather a goal for myself to achieve. Since I was about 22, I knew that I couldn’t possibly eat all the needed vitamins in my body so I turned to multivitamins. It was a habit I started as a child, when I had Flintstones chewable vitamins, somehow throughout my adolescents this habit was interrupted. So when I started working, I decided one a lunch break to buy a bottle of Centrum which according to the bottle, provides me with all the necessary vitamins from “A to Zinc”. I didn’t notice much of a change but then again, I wasn’t sure if I was suppose to feel anything. What does this after to do with bright yellow urine?

Well, recently my stock on Centrum was running low and dangerously close to a month past the expiration date. With only 20 tablets left out of the 180, I figured it was time to buy more. I did a quick search on the web to find out what other multivitamins might do the trick at a lower premium. What I found out was that Centrum isn’t really the leading brand for men’s multivitamin. In fact, women tend to use it more for some reason(possibly due to the lower dosage). A lot of the reviews stray towards GNC’s brand, “Mega Men“. So I hastily ordered them via Amazon.com since they seem to have the lowest or close to lowest pricing(yeah I can be a cheapie sometimes). It didn’t occur to me to check the dosage since I was a man and I wanted to be Mega!

So when the package arrived yesterday, I opened the box to find that the dosage of the vitamins in GNC’s Mega Men brand multivitamin to be double, if not triple amount in my old Centrum. I figured as long as I don’t overdose on this stuff I should be alright so I took my first pill this morning. No sooner than a few hours did I feel a slight boost in energy and what seemed like super bright florescent pee! Perhaps I was turning into a mutant? Maybe I could join the X-men… No luck, I consulted the web again and found out that urine being bright yellow is usually a result of an excess in Riboflavin(aka Vitamin B-2). But if I start growing claws or feel a slight sense of superhuman abilities, I’ll update this entry.
