A few years back, a friend of mine from college contacted me mysteriously via AIM(AOL’s Instant Messenger). He asked what I was up to and strangely enough mentioned photography to me. I didn’t quite understand why. At the time I had not taken up an interest in photography and had no idea why he was discussing SLR camera recommendations with me. After about half an hour into the conversation, I asked him what’s the deal with all these questions about cameras? Well, Apparently he had gone to howardchang.com not remembering what my phone number was and thought it might be posted there. It was actually quite resourceful of him, to think that I owned that site, since I did own a number of other web domains(including the now defunct howardchang.net) at the time.
Unfortunately, when I attempted to purchase that domain several(yes several, back in the hey days of AOL) years ago it was already taken by some guy in Canada. What made matters worse was that this person was a professional photographer and had a semi-close resemblance to me in appearance. He had taken nude shots of his family and himself. Albeit rather tastefully without any(can’t quite remember) poses too revealing. My college buddy had thought that was me. Quite an embarrassing situation
Soon after, I decided to purchase howardchang.net but due to inactivity and lack of maintenance it was closed and taken over by another Howard Chang. Who actually lived quite close to where I was living. It was a pity that he had the same apathy for maintaining websites since it still sits vacant on the world wide web.
So when time freed up a little for me, I went out and tried to buy howardchang.com, howardchang.net but with no avail. I didn’t want to stray too far off my name so I went ahead and chose this domain, thinking it might be easier to remember for anyone whose interested on information about Howard Chang.
