Cleaner::Review::

As far as mystery thrillers go, “Cleaner” seems to do a pretty apt job of making it interesting. But certainly not interesting enough to make it onto any must-see lists for 2007. The cast is pretty tight considering, Ed Harris, Samuel Jackson, Eva Mendes and the love-able Luis Guzman are on board. The film is shot in a very cinematic way that reminds me of most titles under the same genre.

The director, Renny Harlin also directed some great hits like “Cliffhanger”, “Driven”, “Blast from the Past”, and even “Die Hard 2″. Sadly, the plot is very cliche’d and predictable. Acting was fairly decent but the not phenomenal which is probably why word of mouth wasn’t exactly loud enough for people to recognize or even acknowledge this film. In fact, I’m not even sure if there was a theatrical release for it. The one redeeming quality of this movie is the idea or concept of having a movie centralized around a bio-hazard materials cleaner(someone that kills up dead people).

A bit grim but the scenes are shot in such a way that it is not grotesque. If there’s nothing on tv, dvd, movies, netflix, magazines, books, comics, etc… basically if you’ve exhausted all your options on a slow Sunday then go ahead and watch this movie. I wouldn’t exactly go out and buy it or rent it though. It’s just one of those movies that you kind of settle for. Hey at least there’s not snakes in this movie!

Spoiler: Since this is one of those movies that really isn’t worthy of going out and watching, I figured it might be best to spare people from watching it. Here’s the gist of the ending. Ed Harris was the bad guy, he wanted desperately to start a family of his own. Apparently with Eva Mendes. He killed a corrupt cop to cover his tracks and thereby becoming a corrupt cop. Samuel Jackson was somehow drawn into the cover up that went a rye. Ed dies in the end after being shot by Sam’s daughter.
